Diffused by postal mail and e-mail I hardly found out his death in Canada:
In relation to the Dick Higgins´s dead I want tell that all know that, such
which I made it know openly in the Biennial V from Mexico (1996) and in Eye
Ryhmes, Alberta, Canada (1997) in the face of his own presence that, mainly,
I owe my liberation of the jails of the Uruguayan dictatorship to him in
1979. It is known that in the mobilizations for my freedom many friends in
everywhere participated and highlight his help like decisive of that fact.
He achieved, next to another of my dear dead, Wolf Vostell, that the Arts
Academy and Letters from Federal Germany (DAAD) occur me a scholarship for 3
months in Berlin and he got the money in order to pay the prisons expenses
for my detention without which I could not have negociated the passport for
to travel. Also, I advise my participation in one of the most important
events on Visual Poetry of the world: Eye Ryhmes to him. The pain won't
prevent me from putting his life like paradigm of the true friendship and
his shade will accompany and will strengthen me next to my other deads,
like Edgardo Antonio Vigo, Guillermo Deisler, Dámaso Ogaz, Adriano Spatola,
Franco Beltrametti and Samuel Feijóo.
Fraternal greetings,
Clemente Padin

Subject: Dick Higgins' Last Journey: A work for piano
Dick Higgins' last journey
a work for piano
The piano top is closed.
The urn containing the remains of Dick Higgins
is placed on the piano top,
in the honored position
that a bust of a composer
should be placed.
An empty suitcase or valise is placed next to it
on the top of the piano.
The pianist plays the piano:
Throughout the piece,
piano works by Dick Higgins,
or excerpts from his works,
are the primary music,
but witty comments
in the form of brief musical quotations from anyone else
may be interspersed and improvised at will.
The piano is wheeled around the room to many spots.
As many people as are able should participate
and help push Dick's piano about.
Some destinations may have great significance.
Others locations will be merely stops along the way.
Anyone may suggest a place for Dick to visit,
but it will require the coordination of everyone
to take Dick there.
As it moves about the room,
the piano stops when it reaches a spot.
At each stop,
it is played for between 7 and 60 seconds,
and then the piano is moved onward to the next spot.
Eventually,
the piano is moved to a spot in the middle of the audience;
chairs may well have to be moved and reassembled
to create a circle around the piano.
Then,
when the piano is surrounded by Dick's friends,
it is announced that his journey is over,
and the piece ends.
As an afterpiece,
the empty valise may be opened and Dick's intangibles
distributed among all present.
